Saw the San Jose show last night. First couple of songs, it seemed like people were tired, sick, out of sync.... until I Shot The Sheriff.... BLASTOFF! The rest of the show was undoubtedly the highest energy concert I have ever attended (this includes Stevie Ray, old Sabbath, Pink Floyd, Santana, etc). FANTASTIC.
Now to see if tonight's show is even better :)
Peace

Re: OH MY GOD!!!
Tue, August 3, 2004 - 12:02 AMI've gotta say that Friday night's show was the most incredible energy of any concert I'd ever attended.....until Saturday, when Eric and the gang BLEW THE ROOF OFF of the HP Pavillion with a show that with an identical playlist was perfect from the first notes of Let it Rain. It was obvious that they guys/gals had rested over the evening and from the very first moments, it was the tightest, grooviest, stompin'est, jammin'est, rockin'est, bluesiest show I've ever had the good fortune to attend. (Please add The Who, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Allman Brothers, Rush, Blue Oyster Cult, and a wealth of other great acts to the list from the previous post).
This is not to absolve the security crew in the blue blazers from being the "Anti-fun Police", intervening at every opportunity when a few people were driven to dance in watever open floor space they could find. It was outrageous to watch them CHASE a young lady around the floor for DARING TO DANCE! They accosted ANYONE who dared to show their enthusiasm except in the 144 square inches of floor space directly in front of the seat on your ticket. This conformity drive that normative culture has foisted upon us has gone TOOO FRIGGIN' FAR! No dancing at a concert? What friggin' planet are these people from??????
Of course, it was only a few people who were openly thrilled to be on the planet while Eric was playing- only a few who were actually daring to show their joy and offend the "anti-fun types". Sure, the house would erupt at the end of songs, but I'd say that a good 95% of those in attendence sat politely in their chairs, occasionally tapping their foot. Was this because of fear that they might offend someone? Was it due to being old? Was it out of such an emotional deformity that they just couldn't "Feel" the music? Was it because they have been properly trained by normative culture to not do anything that might possibly cause someone else to think they are anything less than proper citizens, conforming to polite norms? Who knows.
They wouldn't even stand during the encores! Bunch of emotionally dead drones, if you ask me. Sure, I understand being in awe and being so shocked at how incredible the band was, and how glorious God's playing was, and being too floored to move, but THIS IS RIDICULOUS!!! If this was the case, by I Shot the Sheriff, they'd have been so infused with the 'spirit' as to overcome this awestruck state of paralysis. It's not a speech where physical movement might distract the speaker, It's a CONCERT! *humor now* Christ, I've seen more enthusiasm at a Catholic church mass.
Sorry, but I am still amazed at how the evening played out. The band was glorious, the crowd embarassing, except in between songs.
Am I being too judgemental? They didn't bother me DURING the show, just after it was over and it began to sink in how alone I, and the five young ladies I was with, were the ONLY people in our entire section of seating who were dancing through ANY of the songs (they ladies were dancing through the entire night and even got 'busted' for dancing on the steps while they waited for room to file past other patrons to their seats after a bathroom break).
Oh well, I loved it. I'd do it again, 364 nights/year if I could. The other night, I'd NEED to get SOME sleep.
Just my 2cents.
Peace,
